Nesting

Can anyone else feel it in the air?
It's definitely nesting time.
The crispness of the air, the crunch of leaves, the crackle of an outdoor fire...
Coffee tastes better, I have an excuse to wear boots everyday and in one word, pumpkin! Before too long we will be starting a fire in the fireplace and opting for wool. Best of all, we will be together... our family of 3 + Dogs + Horses... enjoying the closeness that Fall guarantees.

Howdy!!!

I haven't talked with ya'll in such a while and boy have I missed y'uns! What have I been doing? Well... a lot but mostly riding, loving or playing with these guys.

We added our new guy, Quaterhorse Clyde to the crew. He's a 16 year old sweetie and my son's favorite guy. Rosie is my pal and we've had a blast this summer just trotting up and down the fencerow.

I also ran my very first 1/2 marathon! My son helped pull me across the finish line.

Then there was the garden, the canning, the mountains of baby tomatoes...
It was a good summer and now it's gonna be a great fall. Ya'll stop by again for coffee, and we'll catch up. And I promise not to wait so long between visits the next time.

Runnin' Around

Where have I been? Runnin' around!
For the past 6 months I have been running here and running there to prepare for my first BIG (big to me anyway) race... the Marine Corps 17.75K. Finally race day came this past weekend and I had a blast! Not only was the race big fun, but I also had a great time training. I've had the opportunity to see the back country roads of Virginia in a way they are rarely seen, and oh the beauty! Not to mention the hours of blissful solitude and contemplation. Just me and my Weimaraner, Ruby, cruisin' down the road with Lady GaGa in my ears and the wind (hopefully) at my back. But it's not over yet... I'm training for bigger and better. So I'll see ya'll around here and if you see me on the road, give us a wave... I'll be the one with the big smile on my face.

The Joy of a Horse

So warm are her withers under my fingers.
Stirruped feet cradle her girth.
A slightness of breath below me.
A small nudge of the leg and we're off.

Yesterday, while perusing the Facebook, I came across this posting from one of my Weimaraner loving friends....

2 photos|Back to Lana Schippers's Photos

These are the bracelets we have to raise money for our rescue. The wording is universal....Rescue A New Best Friend...if you mail me a check for 3$ I will mail the bracelet right back to you! Lana Schippers 915 Herold Ave. Des Moines, Iowa 50315 They are 2$ but envelope and shipping is a 1.00! Thanks everyone! Make sure you include your mailing address, or include a SASE puffy envelope and it's just 2$!

Although Lana operates a Weim rescue, like she says, these bracelets would be great for any breed lover, dog lover or even "animal lover." By ordering a bracelet you can support a rescue/foster program, show your support for animal adoption and look super cute, all at the same time. If you're on Facebook give Lana a shout or just mail your money to the address above and support a cause that I know ya'll are all passionate about.

Wordy Wednesdays

"To call him a dog hardly seems to do him justice, though inasmuch as he has four legs, a tail, and barked, I admit he was to all outward appearances a dog. But to those of us who knew him well he was a perfect gentleman."
