During WWII, some G.I.'s managed to bring home some pretty precious little critters. The miniature Sicilian donkey was a work-horse in the Mediterranean and North Africa for soldiers and civilians alike. Donkeys have "that" reputation for being tough and rugged... and for good reason... they ARE tough and rugged. But the miniature has that adorable sweetness of appearance that is SO endearing! Here's what we have that pays homage to my love of the miniature donkey...

"Frankie" The Pony Mule

Maybe someday he will have a Sicilian brother as his companion. (And maybe they will gang up on Rosie the horse, and defeat her, as top equine, once and for all?)

Merry Christmas

The Kids and I want to wish all of you a Merry, snowy, jumpy, licky, playful Christmas and a barkful New Year. God bless all of you from the least to the greatest.

Blessed Christmas

On this day, roughly 2000 -ish years ago... I received the BEST gift ever. When my Lord was born he delivered me from certain death. I was so lost and he came to find me. And today he loves me still. He wants me to be with him for all eternity! Why me? I don't deserve it... but he loves me. A tiny baby gave me everything. Merry Christmas! P.S. He did it for you too... I know right? Awesome!

Let it Snow?...

Can you believe it? 3 FEET of snow, in Virginia, in less than 2 days! It reminds me of the days I spent in Colorado and Alaska.

Who Doesn't Love Some Gluten Free Pizza?!!

10 years ago, when my son was diagnosed with Celiac Disease, I NEVER could have imagined that he would, one day, be able to go to a pizza place and order... right off the menu! The world is changing though and in this case, for the better. Many places are now offering gluten free options on their menu and it is so much easier to get gluten info now. We are so blessed to have a healthy child and so many who are eager to help keep him that way. Thanks to Rise Pizzaworks...
for giving my son a slice of normal life!

Happy Helper

This Thanksgiving, I received some much needed kitchen help from the sweetest, and cutest little sous chef around. Doesn't she look like the happiest little helper you've ever seen?

A Lovely Gift for the Holidays!

Have you been looking for the perfect gift for that pet lover in your life? Maybe someone you know has a new puppy, (or kitty) and needs a bit of guidance. Or perhaps someone you know is looking for some new activities to do with their old best friend... you know... punch it up a bit. Or maybe you just love reading and learning about your animal buddy. If you fit into any of the above categories, I have a great suggestion for you. A new book written by dog lovers Wendy Nan Rees and Kristen Hampshire, and a companion book for cat lovers also written by Kristen Hampshire as well as Iris Bass and Lori Paximadis, are some of the best and most comprehensive books for pet people ever!

Dog Lover's Daily Companion, 365 Days of Tips, Tricks, and Techniques for Living a Rich Life with Your Dog, and the companion book Cat Lover's Daily Companion, 365 Days of Insight and Guidance for Living a Joyful Life with Your Cat, are available in the cutest little gift set. With the package looking like a refrigerator with magnets reminding you of activities to do with your pet....
If, however, you are more doggiephile than catcentric (or vise versa,) the books can be purchased separately. Further info on availability can be seen on the publisher's website, http://www.quarrybooks.com/
Since we are HUGE fans of the canine here at Doggie Life, I want to point out a few of my favorite things about The Dog Lover's Daily Companion that I really loved. First of all, the book is written as a tool to bring you closer to your doggie friend... and that's always a good thing. The book cover even has a small window, on the front cover, for you to put your pup's picture. What a great way for your dog to remind you, without words, about your "together time." Chapters range from the practical to fun. Tips, such as "How to Supply a First Aid Kit," "Disaster Preparedness," and "Your Dog Vital Stats," provide great to know info that is invaluable to have on hand for easy reference. Tips on "Picking a Professional Groomer," and "Dog Park Etiquette," are also great to know and not neccessarily questions you think to ask pros, when they're around. Instructions on how to "Make a Designer Dog Collar," or "Playing Flyball," are so much fun for you and your buddy. And, personal stories of incredible dogs and their people make you and your pup feel happy and warm inside! Finally, my favorite thing about the book is the format. Set as 365 days worth of lessons and "to dos," the book allows an opportunity to grow with your doggie for a full year. This is why I highly recommend this book, for all of you, and especially as a Christmas gift. Make it a New Year's resolution and you and your pup could have a full year's worth of laughs and love.... guaranteed!
